Accidents, injuries, and sudden illnesses can happen without warning. When they do, you need a clinic you can trust to help you feel better quickly, with care that is personal, accessible, and easy to understand. Our acute care services give you prompt attention for everyday health concerns, along with follow-up that helps keep small problems from turning into bigger ones.
Westwood DPC is not an emergency room. If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest ER right away.
What acute care means in direct primary care
Acute care focuses on problems that come on suddenly and need timely attention. These concerns are often urgent, but not always emergencies. At Westwood, acute care is part of the ongoing relationship we build with patients: we treat the immediate issue, monitor recovery, and watch for emerging chronic concerns.
Eight common acute care needs
1. Upper respiratory infections
Colds, sinus symptoms, and sore throats. We assess whether symptoms are likely viral, whether testing is needed, and what supportive treatment may help.
2. Ear infections and ear pain
We help determine whether the issue is infection, congestion, fluid buildup, or another cause.
3. Minor cuts, scrapes, and wounds
Cleaning, dressing, and follow-up to watch for signs of infection, without a trip to the ER.
4. Sprains and minor musculoskeletal injuries
Twisted ankles and strained muscles often improve with rest, guidance, and follow-up. We determine when home care is reasonable and when further evaluation is needed.
5. Skin rashes and irritation
Rashes can come from allergies, infections, or environmental triggers, and they can look similar. A careful evaluation guides the right next step.
6. Urinary symptoms
Burning, frequency, urgency, or lower abdominal discomfort can signal a urinary tract issue that should be checked promptly.
7. Gastrointestinal upset
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain. Many cases can be managed in primary care with clear advice on when to seek more care.
8. Fever and unexplained illness
Fever, aches, fatigue, and sudden flu-like symptoms deserve evaluation by your doctor, not a rotating provider who does not know your history.
Same-day access and convenient telehealth
Direct primary care gives patients same-day access to their doctor when possible, so you get help before a minor issue turns into a bigger one. Virtual visits are a practical option for symptom questions, medications, test results, or deciding whether you need to come in.
Predictable costs without surprise bills
Urgent care and emergency room visits can come with unexpected charges, even for routine problems. Direct primary care is built around an upfront monthly fee that covers many services, which makes it easier to understand what your care will cost.
We are not an urgent care clinic
Westwood provides acute care for established members with common, non-emergency health concerns. Acute care is provided within an ongoing primary care relationship, so Dr. Park can consider your history, medications, and long-term health. If a condition requires immediate attention, advanced imaging, emergency intervention, or services beyond the clinic’s capabilities, patients will be directed to the appropriate urgent care center or emergency department.
